If you have thick hair strands, it is more difficult to have it coloured because colour pigments cannot build in the hair as easy and the result could be lighter than desired. It is worth going for ½ or 1 colour nr. darker hair dye and leaving it on your hair for a longer period of  time.  

How to dye thin hair

It is easier to change the colour of thin hair strands so I suggest that you should buy ½ or 1 colour nr. lighter hair dye to achieve the desired hair colour. 

Colour correction for already dyed hair to lighter colour

In professional language this process is also called stripping. You may apply this sort of lightening correction if your hair ends have got darker or you have ended up with unwanted shades.

I always apply this „colour cocktail” on wet, unwashed hair to lighten already dyed hair because it removes unwanted artificial hair pigments slowly and gently.

It is not any more difficult than neutralize yellow or green hair colours. Just have a look at the hairdressing colour wheel and all the secrets will be revealed!

Some of you want to get rid of the copper colour but doesn’t want darker hair. Some of you want to lighten their hair but can’t get rid of the orangish pigments on the hair roots.

If you hope to get pastel hair, you must have an already even blonde hair colour.

You should colour the base colour of your hair to a shade lighter. (bleach)

Mixing ratio: 1 unit of hair dye + 2 units of volume developer

Apply the colour on the whole length of your hair and leave it on for 15 mins.

If you want to end up with a nice even colour, work the colouring cream through your hair every 5 min.

If you have colour no. 5-6 or 9 hair, than you can achieve it without pre-bleaching. If your hair is darker, you need to pre-bleach.

Those who have strong hair, they usually need to use higher vol. and one shade lighter colour than the desired result.

When you lighten your hair colour, it gets yellowish.

If you dye your hair to golden blonde, you can actually use the yellowish colour to end up with golden colour. Golden shade is a result of natural colours and the proper intensity of volume, there is no need to use peachy colours.

How to dye your hair to a lighter colour for the first time

Step by step how to dye your hair to a lighter colour for the first time.

When you dye your hair for the first time, first apply the colour on the whole length of the hair and hair ends apart from the roots.

Leave free about 2 cms from the hair roots.

Leave the hair dye in for 20-30 mins.

Finally apply the colour on the roots too.

Leave it in for 30-40 mins.

To boost the shine of the colour, apply a stronger Vol. on the length of your hair and on the hair ends.
Keep in mind, that this technique works only with un-dyed hair, because as you know, you cannot lighten coloured hair with only hair dye.

How to neutralize greenish hair colour

 

I have seen many times that hair can turn greenish when dyed at home. It may happen because you don’t go for the correct colour when you buy hair dye in the store. If it does happen to you, don’t panic because you can get it right without having you hair bleached or soap capped.

Any hair colour having greenish undertone can be covered by using gold colour and red mixing colour.

How to neutralize yellow hair color

Everyone who dreams about platinum blonde hair is absolutely petrified of ending up with yellow instead. I agree, it doesn’t look good.

It still happens from time to time that hairdressers don’t dye or highlight their client’s hair properly and the hair may turndye or highlight a couple of hair washes.

You can get it right at home taking only a few minutes.

Just re-colour your hair with colour no. 9 or 10 pearl blonde (violet).

Mixing ratio: 1:2.

Apply on wet hair and wash it off after 10-15 mins.

How to dye and pre-pigment grey hair

There are better and better hair dyes on the market thanks to the producers. Some of them cover grey hairs 100 %, but it is still very usual to mix base colours to fashion colours for perfect concealment.

Percentage ratio of grey hair

0 - 30%                       - no adding of base colour necessary

30 - 50%                     -1/3 base colour is needed to combine

50 – 70%                    - ½ base colour is needed to combine

70 – 100%                  - pre pigmentation or ¾ base colour is needed to combine

How to dye your brown hair to a warm tone of medium brown

Warm colour of brown has reddish or gold undertone. Go for this shade at home, and you will end up with shiny and sparking hair in case you use professional hair dye

Forget about the box of hair dyes you can buy in drugstores.

I have already written about the natural hair colour depth. Medium brown is graded to no. 4. There are some darker tones like no. 1or 2 (black) and 3 (dark brown). Also there are lighter tones like no. 5 (light brown), no. 6 (dark blonde), no. 7 (medium blonde), no.8 (light blonde) and no. 9 (very light blonde).

In a beauty salon it is crucial to communicate with the guests. The hair stylist must find out what colour the guest would go for, warm or rather cool.

In most cases you will achieve the desirable colour by mixing two or three colours. Different colours are required for your hair roots and for the end of your hair and also different developers should be used if you want an even colour.

Components of oxidative hair dyes

1. Hair dye substances – transform into dyes by oxidation

2. Direct hair dyes – dye directly, emphasize red-goldish and red shades

3. Alkalines – cause hair to swell, neutralise stabilizer acids and help peroxide to Penetrate. There pH is between 10-11.

4. Mediator substances – cause to attenuate or thicken

Hair colouring is definitely a science.

You interfere in your hair’s biochemistry.

As I have written earlier (hair extension aftercare), hair consists of 3 layers. The first main part is the cuticle (scaled overlapping layer) which consists of many layers of tissues without a nucleus.
Unfortunately, chemical hair treatments reduce the number of tissues and leave our hair dull and lifeless.

Producers put different compounds in their hair dyes to make hair look shiny.

It needs special care since it is not alive anymore.

You should know a few things about the structure of your hair so you will understand what you should or shouldn’t do to it.

Each hair shaft consists of 3 layers.

1. The outermost layer of hair is known as the cuticle. It protects hair by 4-6 scales of tissues.
These scales are bonded to each other. They are colourless and see-through.

Make your own keratin bonds using natural bulk hair at home

Hi there, I am going to show you now how you can separate and put a keratin bond on your
natural bulk hair.

You will need scissors, a hair comb, keratin and bonding heat tool.

This method of bonding your bulk hair reduces the hair loss to minimal. It is a little bit time-

I would like to share my negative experience with you first.

How could that happen in  that people without a degree in hairdressing could become hair extension „experts” by attending only an one-day course?

There are tons of negative experience, comments on messed up hair extensions which ruin my fellow professional hair stylists’ reputation.

I have seen an advertisement saying: “100 strands of European hair for sale for the third of the original price”. This has caught my attention and checked it out! I wasn’t surprised at all that it was worse than what I expected.

The weight of the 100 strands of hair hardly reached 50 grams, the quality was awfully dry full of short hairs and it was obvious that it wasn’t European hair. If somebody got this hair, they would be very disappointed when they left the salon although they were dreaming about long and beautiful hair!

How to take care of your hair after bleaching and colouring

While bleaching your hair, its structure goes through a significant change so you must use products that restore its PH.

Why?

Bleaching powder is alkaline. Due to this chemical property the cuticle (outermost layer of hair) of hair expands and the bleaching powder penetrates.

After having used alkaline products you must stop the expanding effect by applying acid products (neutralizing) otherwise you hair will get damaged.

There should be more acid bits remaining in your hair which contract hairs and restore hair structure to the original condition.

How to important to do skin test

It is worth doing skin test 24 hours prior to hair dye or colour especially if you are buying a

new hair dye brand.

Mix a little hair dye and developer and apply behind your ear. If it doesn’t get red or inflamed within 24 hours you can dye your hair with it.

If you experience any symptoms, you are allergic to the hair dye and you mustn’t use it.

There are more and more antiallergenic, ammonia-free and fragrance-free hair dyes so you

should try these.

Make sure that you are not allergic before you apply!

It is more likely to get allergic reaction if you have diabetes or lactase deficiency.

Hair colour spectrum in hairdressing

Colour theory is basically the colour spectrum.

There are terms that we don’t use in everyday life.

E.g.: for green – matt

         for blue – ash

         for violet - pearl

While bleaching, there might remain yellow (gold), orange (copper) and red shades in the hair. You can neutralize it by applying the directly opposite colour.

For example you can neutralize yellow (gold) shade by violet (pearl).

Orange (copper) can be neutralized by blue and red by green (matt).
